Residential Services
The City of South Salt Lake, Public Works Department provides once per week collection of garbage. Residents are required to use a City provided automated container. Please place containers to be collected at the curb no earlier than 7:00 p.m. the night before collection, but before 6:30 a.m. the day of collection. Containers should be removed from the curb by 7:00 p.m. the day of collection. Please call 483-6045 for your specific collection days.
Tips for using the automated collection system
1. Please leave at least three feet of clearance between your automated container and any other object, such as other cans, mailboxes, poles, and vehicles and so on. Place the container with the arrow on the lid pointing towards the street and place the container no more than two feet from the curb.
2. Large items, such as mattresses, furniture, boxes and appliances, that will not fit in the automated container can be disposed of at the Salt Lake County Transfer Station free of charge located at 3300 South 502 West, Saturday’s 1:00pm to 5:00pm. You must obtain an entry card from City Hall before you can enter the station. |
Recycling Services
The Salt Lake County provides two convenience centers for drop off of recyclable materials. Currently these centers are accepting newspaper, aluminum cans, cardboard, plastic bottles, clear glass, office paper and magazines. The locations of the drop off centers are:
3300 South 502 West (transfer station)
1300 South 6030 West (land fill)
Recycled yard waste material is converted into mulch material for use around shrubs and trees. This material makes great bedding material. This recycled yard waste is available at the County Land Fill. |

Hazardous Waste Materials
The City of South Salt Lake, Public Works Division will not accept hazardous materials in the normal collection routes. Materials such as latex or oil based paints, fuel oils, motor oils, etc. are unacceptable materials for disposal. If you require disposal of these types of materials, There is a household Hazardous Waste Facility now located at the Salt Lake County Landfill on 6030 West 1300 South. It is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Call 313-6697 for more information
