GARBAGE AND RECYCLING - CURB SIDE
The City provides weekly garbage and recycling collection for residential dwellings (qualifying single family units and duplexes only). Ace Disposal has been contracted to pickup and dispose of the solid waste for the City. Pickup times vary by workload.
If you experience problems with your pickup, call Ace Disposal's Customer Service Center at 801-363-9995.
If your regularly scheduled pick-up day falls on July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's Day, service will be delayed one day starting with the holiday.
Owner-occupied single family residences may have one garbage can and one recycling can for the cost of $10.00 per month, billed quarterly in February, May, and August and November: $30.00. Customers may have one additional garbage or recycling can for an additional $10.00 per month. Prepayment of the remaining billing cycle and a $25.00 delivery fee is required.
Rental properties consisting of single family residences and duplexes also qualify for city-provided waste collection, as long as they conform to property layout requirements. Rentals are managed through our Business Licensing department and garbage is billed annually at the same fees as owner-occupied homes, along with permits fees. Automated containers should be placed at least 3 feet away from any object (such as other cans, mailboxes, poles and vehicles) with the arrow on the lid pointing forwards the street and no more than 2 feet from the curb. Please have your containers out by 7:00 a.m. If you need your can repaired, contact us 801.483.6074. Residents are responsible for cleaning their own containers.
TRANSFER STATION (RESIDENTIAL DUMP)
City residents can use the transfer station located at 502 West 3300 South, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., the FIRST and THIRD SATURDAYS. To use the facility, residents will need to obtain a free card from City Hall, 1st Floor, Community Development Dept. For questions, call 801.483.6000.
ROLL-OFF CONTAINERS AVAILABLE TO RENT
Residents may use roll-off containers to dispose of yard refuse and debris, including tree limbs, leaves, shrubbery, and grass trimmings, as well as items such as used carpet, appliances, auto parts, etc. Please read agreement for limitations. Call 801.483.6000 to check available dates or stop by City Hall to make a reservation. Reservations are not accepted by phone and are made on a first come, first served basis. Containers go fast so it's best to book in advance and have alternative dates available in case your first request is booked. Deliveries are made on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. FALL LEAF BAG PROGRAM
The City of South Salt Lake offers its residents the opportunity to participate in an annual leaf bag collection program. Each fall season, five (5) leaf bags are supplied to residents at no cost. Bags can be picked-up at the Public Works building located at 195 W Oakland Ave (2475 South), South Salt Lake, Utah 84115 beginning in October. Residents must show a valid ID with a South Salt Lake address in order to obtain city provided leaf bags. The leaf bags will be picked-up curb side through the end of November and taken to the landfill for use in their composting program.
City provided bags as well as other small to large plastic garbage bags may be used to collect your leaves.
Bags shall not exceed 40 pounds and must contain leaves only. Heavier bags will not be collected.
The City will not collect any bag(s) that contain household waste, green waste, branches, limbs, rocks, animal waste, dirt, sod or other restricted bulky waste. If a bag contains any unacceptable materials, crews will place a notice on your bag(s) and leave them for you to remove.
Place your bag(s) curbside. Bags should not be placed in the street, gutter, ditches, or any drainage way. This would obstruct the flow of storm water runoff when it rains.
Leaves shall not be raked into the street. Leaves raked into the street will not be picked up by the City and homeowners/renters will be subject to fines for placing debris in the roadways.
Residents are encouraged to clear leaves and other debris from the tops of catch basins abutting their property during the fall leaf collection period to help prevent localized flooding conditions during the fall and winter months.
The City also encourages South Salt Lake residents to compost leaves. Composting is an efficient and environmentally friendly way to dispose of your leaves. You can also create mulch out of leaves. The success of the City’s leaf bag collection program depends on the cooperation of our residents. Without your contributions, the City would not be able to provide an efficient and cost effective leaf collection program. This is an opportunity for us all to keep South Salt Lake clean, safe, and beautiful.
SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING HAZARDOUS MATERIALS
Hazardous Waste Materials such as latex or oil based paints, fuel oils, motor oils, etc. are unacceptable materials for disposal in any curbside pickup. You can dispose of these types of materials at the Salt Lake County Landfill located at 6030 West 1300 South. Hours of operation: Monday through Saturday from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
