DEVELOPMENTAL YOUTH OUTCOMES

Fast Facts:

  • 96.2% of our funding is from donations and grants. 
  • We host programs in five Community Centers and four school-based Learning Centers.
  • We served 2,478 youth and families and served 780 youth 4 days/week or more in 2012.
  • We are one of 7 neighborhoods in the United Way of Salt Lake Promise Partnerships. 

2012 Highlights:

  • Recognized by America’s Promise Alliance Award as 100 Best Communities for Youth in U.S.
  • Recognized as 1 of 6 Model Afterschool Programs in Utah by Utah Afterschool Network.Recognized in the top 15 21st Century Programs in the US.
  • Secured $549,000 in multi-year program funding (Total $782,000 in direct grants to city). 
  • Secured partnerships that yielded id="mce_marker",332,500 in partner-delivered community services.
  • Secured 4 VISTA staff to address health, jobs, arts/culture, and funding (Valued at $160,000).
  • Increased collaboration between city, community organizations, churches, and schools.
  • Established programming at Historic Scott School Community Center.

On the Horizon:

  • Increase number of South Salt Lake youth who receive intensive services by 10%.
  • Obtain $250,000 in new funding.
  • Obtain 20 new business, faith, & community partners to meet growing and changing needs.
  • Implement Client Track data system, in collaboration with United Way of Salt Lake.
  • Integrate South Salt Lake senior citizens and older adults into programming.
  • Increase awareness and involvement in PSSL concepts.

kids2Promise South Salt Lake Afterschool Programs Deliver Model Programs

Promise South Salt Lake Afterschool Leaders deliver programs with additional emphasis on quality.
Trainers of High-quality specific programs that are currently on the National Registry of Effective and
Promising and Programs (NREPP) have come to Certify Promise South Salt Lake to give our Promise SSL program staff and partners the skills and information they need to deliver programs that state that they get results.

“In addition to afterschool programs serving more South Salt Lake youth this school year, Promise SSL staff and partners have been trained and certified to implement model curriculums and evidence-based practices that have been proven to be effective. We are targeting specific outcome indicators for our youth, such as academic improvement, pro-social development, and delinquency prevention—all offered in active, engaging formats. “ says Kari Cutler, Promise South Salt Lake Director, “We want to make the most of every minute that we have our community’s children and youth in our programs.” The newly adopted programs vary by site, but include the Peer Assistance and Leadership Program, Too Good for Violence, Strengthening Families Program, and Positive Action Character Education Program.
