Youth City Council

Our award-winning youth city council is a city sponsored organization made up of local high school students. We do service for the city, and in the process learn more about local government. Through theYCCwe have a chance to speak at city council meetings, shadow city employees, sit on advisory boards, and work together as a real council.

We meet twice a month at city hall where we practice Roberts Rules of Order using an agenda. It is here where we plan our next service activity, as well as discuss our general council business.

In 2010 we earned the 1^st place Award of Excellence for 20 members or less from the Association of Youth Councils. We worked hard all year and we are very proud of our accomplishment. Currently we are earning Presidential Service Awards for all the community service we do!

We also had the opportunity to go toWashingtonD.C.for the CADCA conference. Here we learned what to look for in our community concerning drug abuse, as well as solutions to bring back to our community. We then took our knowledge toLogan,Ut.At the Youth City Council Leadership Institute and taught what we learned to other youth city councils.

Just like our motto says, (we were inspired from our own city’s tag line) we truly are “Youth on the move!”
