PLAN REVIEW PROCESS:

          • Plans are briefly reviewed at front counter, dated and logged in.

          Plans are reviewed by each department in the following order:

          Zoning – Mike Florence, City Planner

          Engineering / Public Works – Ed Rufener, Public Works Official

          Fire – Bruce Shoemaker, Fire Marshall

          Building – Greg Sauter, Senior Inspector / Plans Examer

In order to expedite the process, one department does not necessarily wait for other departments to finish review before starting their own.All plans are signed in and out thru the Building Department Permit Technician, Shawna Winter (483-6005). As each department reviews the plans, review reports are written, if corrections are necessary, these reports will be forwarded to the listed contact persons for appropriate resubmittals. Once all requirements have been met, the plans will be stamped, fees assessed, and the permits will be released for construction.

Each department has other duties besides plan review. Due to unpredictable workloads, we are unable to guarantee turnaround times. Please allow generous time periods, and plan ahead. Each department reviews plans in the order in which they are received. When plan changes and resubmittals are returned to the office, they will be forwarded immediately to the department requesting the corrections, which will review them in the order in which they were received.

We strongly urge careful comparison of the plans to the Plans Submittal Check List to make sure all requested information is included. This will expedite the plan review. If there are any questions about the review process, do not hesitate to call the office.

  • SHAWNA WILL CONTACT YOU AS SOON AS SHE RECEIVES NOTICE THAT THE PLANS ARE READY FOR RELEASE. FREQUENT CALLS TO THE OFFICE DO NOT SHORTEN TURNAROUND TIMES.
  • DUE TO THE LARGE VOLUME OF CALLS WE RECEIVE FOR PLAN STATUS UPDATES, WE ASK THAT YOU CHOOSE ONLY ONE INDIVDUAL TO CALL FOR UPDATES.
  • WAIT AT LEAST 7 WORKING DAYS AFTER SUBMITTAL BEFORE CALLING. IF REVIEWS ARE COMPLETED PRIOR TO THE ESTIMATED DAYS, SHAWNA WILL CONTACT YOU.
  • DIRECT ALL YOUR INQUIRES TO SHAWNA, PERMIT TECHNICIAN AT 483-6005.
  • APPROVED PLANS WILL ONLY BE KEPT BY CITY FOR 30 DAYS AFTER APPROVAL. APPROVED PLANS MUST BE PICKED UP AND FEES PAID. ALL GENERAL AND/OR SUB CONTRACTORS MUST BE LISTED ON APPROVE APPLICATION BEFORE FIRST INSPECTION IS SCHEDULED.
