If you are interested in a career in the fire service but do not meet the minimum requirements for application, you should begin certification courses to become a Utah certified EMT-Basic and firefighter. EMT training is available through many private schools, and businesses as well as many Utah colleges and universities. Firefighter training may be completed at various fire academies throughout the state. Generally, firefighter training academies are held by individual fire departments, applied training colleges, and the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy (Utah Valley University). After you are certified as a firefighter/EMT, you will be eligible to test with SSLFD.
